Anyone who doesn't know the difference won't care. The people who do know will think you're a dumbass. All your doing is reminding yourself of what you don't have.

This is why I advocate de-badging all badges!

Fake AMG badge. They're so common it's unreal. Your analysis is spot on.

A lot of times it's just the "AMG Performance Package" or something.
Not necessarily the owner's fault.

I've been on the hunt for a W124.
One that I found for $1500 was a 300E with an AMG badge.
It also had some kind of faux racing shifter handle...and it was an automatic.
And for the trifecta of fail, it had cheap HID's.
:/

The owner of the gym my wife used to go to many years ago had the same generation CLK 320 with multiple AMG badges. One time I asked him, "Hey your super-charger must be really quiet." He says, "what supercharger?"
-"Oh you have a CLK 32 AMG right? That car is supercharged, sometimes you can hear the blower whine at start-up."
He says, "Oh I don't really have an AMG."
I say, "But you got the badges, I mean that's got to count for something right?"
He didn't talk to me ever after that...

Also applies to all those Caymans with 911 badges.

That's petty funny. I had to meet a client in a parking lot to exchange drawing for a check. He had a Ranger Rover. I asked if it was the Supercharged model. He didn't know. I just don't understand how that is possible
